I am Coming To Alaska!

Finally, I am coming to Alaska!  What do I need to bring?  This is a very common question of the staff at Black Rock Charters.  You may want to visit my blog and review my post I am Coming to Alaska What do I do Now?

Black Rock Charters two goals are to make sure your trip is as fluid as possible and that you catch a lot of fish.  Catching the fish is easy, we are professionals.  Making sure your trip is fluid is an ongoing process that involves 100's of people.  Everyone from travel agencies to the local airport to the fish packing company to your lodging all have to work in a seamless effort to make sure your trip goes off without a hitch.

Gustavus, Alaska and all of it's residents including the staff at Black Rock Charters have decades of experience creating unique Alaskan Adventures.  We have gotten very good at it.  However, our guests that come to Alaska do not have as much experience.  Therefore, we have come up with a list of things for you to think about before coming to Alaska.

 1.        Decide what activities you would like to complete while you are in Alaska, may activities require reservations ahead of time.

2.        Be sure to call and confirm your reservation 6 months, 3 months and 3 weeks before your arrival.  Often times people book their reservation over two years in advance, by calling to confirm you will be assured your reservation is still secure.  In addition, you will receive any updates that are available

3.        Ensure that you have all of the gear that you will need for your trip in Alaska.  You can use this camping supply list for your next camping trip and for your trip to Alaska.

4.        Pack ahead of time, then unpack and decide if you can get rid of anything you do not bring to Alaska.  Major Airlines allow you to check 2 bags up to 50lbs and then have a carry on.  When you are flying back from Alaska you can bring boxes of fish with you on the airline.  Therefore, if you have fewer then 2 bags to check you can check fish boxes for free!

5.        If you plan far enough ahead of time you can ship cloths, fishing gear or beverages to your Inn.  Allowing you to bring less baggage on the Airline.  Gustavus has a US Postal Office that will allow you to ship packages to your home as well.

This is not an all inclusive list of things to do before you come to Alaska, if you have any questions or comments please review our Blog for the Answer or you can Contact Us.
