Pep’s Packing and Fish Processing

Pep's Packing is a family run, locally owned business in Gustavus, Alaska. We specialize in both fish packing and processing, along with alder smoking and an awesome gift shop.

In 1991 Pep saw a need for better handling of the fish people caught while charter fishing in Alaska.  People were coming to Alaska and catching tons of fish.  Unfortunately the fish were not packed in a manner that allowed them to last very long in the freezer. So Pep had an idea, "I will start a vacuum packing business, and take care of the fish people catch sport fishing in Alaska".  Pep learned all she could about the best ways to care for people's fresh fish, then got all the required permits, and started Pep's Packing.

Do you have any extra fresh Alaskan Fish?
Pep's Packing offers fresh and smoked fish for sale. You may need to top off your box with some wild Alaska king salmon, or some wonderful alder smoked halibut! Take home enough to share with your family and friends. they will be grateful! Did you run out of fish once you got home? Call us and we can ship some directly to your house. How your Alaskan Fish is Packaged
The staff at Pep's Packing picks up your fish everyday at the Gustavus dock at 4:pm. Other arrangements can be made to either drop off your fish, or to have us pick up earlier. Your fresh Alaskan fish is vacuum packed in 1 to 2 lb. bags, then immediately frozen. We then store your fish in our giant freezers until you are ready to go home.

How do I get my Alaskan fish home?
Pep's Packing can arrange to ship your fish, directly to your door so when you arrive home from your vacation it will be ready for you. We can also deliver your frozen fish boxed and ready to go at the Gustavus airport at the time of your departure. A third options, is you can always arrange to pick up your frozen fish at Pep’s Packing.

What are Pep's Packing Hours of Operation?
Pep’s packing is open all summer. our only day off is our anniversary, July 4th.
the best time to stop buy is between 11am and 7 pm. We are open until 7 pm. each evening. While you’re here try a taste of John’s fresh alder smoked salmon or halibut.

Pep's Gift Shop
Inside of Pep's Packing is a gift shop, all the items for sale are hand-crafted by Pep during the long Gustavus winters. Pep’s Packing accepts Visa or MasterCard.

Who are the owners of Pep's Packing?
Pep and John are the owners of Pep's Packing. They are a family run, locally owned fish processing business. Pep grew up in Gustavus, Alaska where she was raised off the land, picking the local wild strawberries and blueberries, stirring the hot syrup over the big wood range. fishing with her brother, hunting with her dad. trapping and camping along the sandy Gustavus beach, and exploring the vast wilderness of glacier bay.

Pep’s husband and partner is the chief smoking expert John. Just a little taste of his fresh alder smoked salmon or halibut, has caused many to swear off chocolate!
